I appreciate Heathers honestly. But there is a pathetic undertone in this book that Heather does not understand, which makes it even more so. She seeks out "Troy" and his friends because she lacked her own teenage experiences and confidence. She ruined her career and education over a 17 year old boy!
Troy doesn't strike me as a victim. Heather is sadly the largest victim, and it's caused by her own naivety and weak character.

From beggining to end, this book is a good read, and its really worth the money. At first I didn't like the ending, but at least it made sense. So far I've been running into student-teacher book where its the same scenario of female student and male teacher and its been getting overused alot. So if any knows any other student teacher novels where the rolls are reversed just let me know, because I want to create my own book someday, and this was good inspiration. I own it and it gots my full recomendation. so give it read.
I couldn't put it down, I finished it in two days. It is not a love story with a fairytale ending, but it is a story about love. A true and honest account about two people who fell in love at the wrong place and the wrong time. Heather Ingram describes her love affair with one of her students in a way that is so raw and heartfelt that one cannot help but begin to look past the "scandal" and start to see the truth about two people who found in each other something they were missing in themselves. It is heartbreaking to read about their affection towards one another and to know that if they could have waited only a matter of months (until he was 18 and out of school) that they could have avoided the tragedy, the courts, and the headlines.
A truly wonderful book that gives the reader a greater understanding of how every decision we make will shape our lives for better or worse. I cannot say what happened was right, the author herself knows her own mistake. I feel like the relationship was not wrong, the circumstances in which it happened were.
Yes, I stayed up late to finish the book. I was surprised by how naive and simplistic this apparently very educated former teacher writes. The story is engrossing of course. I saw the 20/20 episode where you get to see several pictures of student Dusty Dickeson (AKA Troy) and he struck me as the type of boy I would have chased in high school. However, now that I am 30 (Same age as our narrator at seduction time) to me he looked like a long lashed child. In recent years, this precious little victim has been in and out of jail for drug trafficking and was involved in a shoot out with his buddy Daniel. (The same "Daniel" Heather Ingram also enjoyed some illicit sex during his time at her high school). I really fear for the baby those two have produced. Ms. Ingram may feel she is not a menace to society and resents being seen like one, but her former lover certainly is and the future does not look very bright for little baby Ingram-Dickeson seeing as how Heather helped raise Dusty and look how he turned out.
This book sure makes you think about things. It was a fast read and it was very interesting. She wrote her story very well.
When I've read risking it all,I Enjoyed It Because Even though I Have a Crazy Fascination Of Female Teachers Seducing Male Pupils,This Book Tells Her Story About Her Loving Relationship w/ Troy,a 17 year old Male Student & I think Heather E. Ingram was brilliant of writing a book Like that.Every Chapter I've read It makes me think this Book Got me Reading it Til I finish & I wanna Read it Again if I Feel Like it,Simple is That.
THE PLOT WAS OK BUT IT WASN'T WHAT I EXPECTED, IT LEFT ME HANGGING, SINCE IS BASED ON A TRUE STORY I STILL WANTED TO KNOW A LOT MORE ABOUT "TROY "AND WHAT HAPPEND WITH HIM, THE BOOK WAS TO LONG, THERE WASNT MUCH CONVERSATION BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS, THE AUTHOR ALSO BABBLES TO MUCH AND GIVES TO MUCH DESCRIPTION WHICH IS OK BECAUSE WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND AND IMAGINE WHAT SHE FEELS LIKE BUT WE LOST INTERACTION BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS.
I HAD TO WEB THROUGH THE TO INTERNET AND CHECK THE REAL STORY BEHIND EVERYTHING SHE WROTE', WHICH IS MOSTLY THE SAME IN THE BOOK.
I read this book in two days, found myself drawn to turn each page and it was definitely a good read, but Ms. Ingram is very sad, despite occasional mentions of her mistakes, she seems to have no remorse. I think it would almost have been buyable as a true love outside age had she not gone and slept (one night stand yet) with another student and friend of the original lover ! Agggh. Keep her away from the kids!
